Homespun Homeschool Week #8

Week 8 of Homeschool: We learned all about India, looked up synonyms and antonyms in the Dictionary, studied Latin 3rd declension noun endings, wrote a paper about the Epic of Gilgamesh, learned how animals reproduce, grew wheat grass from seed, tested our spelling skills, gave a presentation about our electric drum kit (Francis), learned about coral, sponges and sea stars, read about hurricanes and tested our comprehension, finished another Cooper Kids book, skip-counted the 13s, read in McGuffey Reader 3, worked on identifying parts of a sentence, looked at prepositions, and went to Effie Yeaw Nature Center for a hike with friends!

Homespun Homeschool Week #7

Week 7 of Homeschool: We summarized a reference for our upcoming paper, studied Latin, worked on reading comprehension, wrote out all the new Grammar for our Classical Conversations class (Field), meditated on 1 Peter 3:15, practiced piano & drums, worked on contractions, labeled parts of speech, worked on music theory, planted our bean plant in the garden, and learned about the Tour de France and made a paper cyclist!

Homespun Homeschool Week #6

Week 6 of Homeschool: We learned more about synonyms, antonyms and the parts of a sentence, watched our bean plant sprout baby beans, learned 2nd declension Latin noun endings, made our own follow-the-dots Mario, learned about the fall of Rome, organized our Mario Legos, learned how to gird up our loins, skip counted 11s and 12s, looked at the major groups of vertebrates, learned more prepositions, found Ancient Greek locations on the map and learned about some ancient Greeks, played baseball, and went to Bishops Pumpkin Farm and picked pumpkins and sunflowers, rode the train and fed the llama!

Homespun Homeschool Week #5

Week 5 of Homeschool: We learned about ancient Rome and made Roman mosaics, learned about invertebrates, looked at real specimens, then ate some (escargots – yum!), worked on our reading comprehension, did a class presentation on our Mario & Luigi Legos, worked on grammar definitions, started growing a carrot from a carrot top, started learning Latin 2nd declension noun endings, made art in the style of Picasso in his cubist phase, skip counted 9s and 10s, practiced piano and drums, read in the Frank Peretti Cooper Kids series, wrote journal entries, worked on memorizing the months of the year, wrote a paper based on The Wind And The Sun fable, looked at more prepositions, and played baseball!

Homespun Homeschool Week #4

Week 4 of Homeschool: We learned about the seven wonders of the ancient world and built a Lego Pyramid of Giza, worked on our Pronouns chart, wrote & produced a 4 song EP called Parfait (Field), learned what adverbs are and wrote Book 2 in our Sentence Series Books (about an octopus), skip counted 7s and 8s, gave a presentation on our new Sriracha game, read the Great Commission and looked at cross references, worked on reading comprehension, wrote a paper about the Legend of the sword of Damocles and read it to our class, learned more prepositions, watched our bean sprout grow even more, learned the parts of a plant cell and how they differ from animal cells, read about Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, diagrammed sentences, worked on our first declension Latin noun endings, met bunnies and chickens at our homeschool community group, went on a beach camping trip, and celebrated Grampy’s 79th birthday!

Homespun Homeschool Week #3

Week 3 of Homeschool: We learned about Greek and Roman Gods, worked on music theory, read Aesop’s Fables, learned about China and the Great Wall, wrote a paper about the Roman Aqueducts, started labeling sentences with parts of speech, planted our bean sprout in a pot and watched her grow, looked at Latin first declension noun endings, learned more new vocabulary words and definitions, tested our spelling skills by playing hangman, practiced counting 16th notes over quarter notes on drums (Francis), learned the parts of an animal cell, played math games, learned more prepositions, learned the defining characteristics of mice, rats and hamsters, went to the zoo with our Classical Conversations community, and celebrated Francis’ 8th birthday!

Homespun Homeschool Week #2

Week 2 of Homeschool: We learned about Samurai and made origami Samurai helmets, learned prepositions, watched our beans sprout, read Alice in Wonderland, worked on spelling, learned about the 5 kingdoms of living things, wrote a noun/verb story book about an octopus who swam, squirted, cried and smiled, ate mushrooms in honor of the kingdom of fungi, named objects in the house that are nouns, memorized commandments 6-10, defined and gave examples for more vocabulary words, looked at the geography of the Assyrian Empire, wrote out verb charts, did editing exercises, wrote a paper about the Lighthouse of Alexandria, worked on music theory, and practiced piano and drums!

Homespun Homeschool Week #1

Week 1 (year 6!) of Homeschool: We opened our schule tutes in celebration of our first day of school, learned the 5 Latin noun cases, grew mold, learned the classifications of living things and classified our shoes, read in Legends and Leagues about the geography of the far East and found the easternmost part of our house, looked at prepositions, started keeping a journal (Francis), built a simple morse code machine, reviewed sentence classification, learned a new hymn and played it on tin whistle, practiced drawing and shading, looked at commandments 1 through 5, started writing our first paper of the year (Field), learned about ancient Israel, made a Philippine Tubbataha Reef, learned about synonyms and antonyms and started keeping a vocabulary journal (Francis), reviewed the color wheel and painted using color families and complimentary colors, built a mini foos-ball table, and met with our charter teacher and Classical Conversations community!

Homespun Homeschool Week #31

Week 31 of Homeschool: We built an air-pressure chamber and learned about the weight of air, made domino sugar cookies and played (delicious) math games with them, studied John chapter 1 inductively, played baseball, built pixelated Super Mario icons from scratch, read all about Citrus Heights then visited our city’s landmarks, worked on division and multiplication, started a new Cooper Kids book, baked more cookies for the church bake sale to raise money to build homes in Mexico, and went to SeaQuest in Folsom where we fed Iguanas, bunnies and parakeets, and pet tortoises and stingrays!

Homespun Homeschool Week #30

Week 30 of Homeschool: We immersed ourselves in all things Titanic, made a glow-in-the-dark stick with chemicals from scratch, coded our own video game and played it, learned how to estimate, finished reading the complete book of Frog and Toad stories aloud to Mom (Francis), learned all about the Kirtland Warbler and its endangered habitat then painted Warbler watercolors, worked on spelling, practiced writing the basic components of music, worked on division, looked more closely at theories of originals fossil records, practiced piano and drums, played baseball (Francis), and jumped to our heart’s content at the trampoline park with friends!
